Characteristic features:
• Osmunda is found in both tropical and temperate regions of the world.
• They seem to prefer shaded and cool localities.
• All the species of Osmunda are medium sized ferns, a few achieving a height of two
to three meters.
• Osmunda provide fibre which is used for growing and cultivating epiphytic plants
especially orchids. A few species are also cultivated as ornamentals for their beautiful
foliage.
