  1. 1. Eryx is commonly called Indian or John sand-boa or dumuhi (double-mouthed snake)
  2. 2. Body is elongated, measuring about one meter in length and chocolate in color.
  3. 3. Head is not distinguished from the neck and bears very small eyes with a vertical pupil and slit-like nostrils.
  4. 4. Tail is blunt and looks like the head end.
  5. 5. Tympanum is absent.
  6. 6. Only three scales on the head are enlarged and the remaining are small. Body scales are 40-55 in rows often keeled particularly on the tail.
  7. 7. The ventral scales do not run across the body.
