  1. 1. Body of amphitrite is elongated and cylindrical, pinkish in colour, measuring about 20 to 30 centimeters in length.
  2. 2. Amphitrite is a marine, sedentary polychaeta lives in tubes buried in sand or mud.
  3. 3. Amphitrite is worldwide in distribution.
  4. 4. Body comprises 3 distinct regions: head, thorax and abdomen.
  5. 5. Food is collected by the tentacles and passed along the grooves to the mouth.
  6. 6. Eyes and palps are absent in prostomium.
  7. 7. Peristomium is also without appendages.
  8. 8. First 12 segments are thickened ventrally by gland Shields which secrete mucus for tube formation.
  9. 9. Abdomen is long, segmented and coiled without notopodia or city.
  10. 10. Anus is terminal, dorsal ventral aperture in the last segment.
