  1. 1. Melanopus is commonly found in green fields and trees and hence green colored.
  2. 2. Commonly known as grasshopper.
  3. 3. Body is differentiated into head, thorax and abdomen.
  4. 4. Head contains chewing parts with large compound eyes and elongated backwardly directed antennules. Pronotum although large is not noticeably elongated.
  5. 5. Thorax is divided into prothorax, mesothorax and metathorx having foreleg, middle leg and hind leg respectively.
  6. 6. Hind legs are modified for jumping and leaping and are called saltatorial legs.
  7. 7. Thorax contains 2 pairs of wings. Forewings are opaque called tegmen while hind wings are membranous.
  8. 8. Female has a long ovipositor. Eggs are laid in groups.
  9. 9. Auditory organs are tympanum having stridulating organs.
  10. 10. Abdomen contains 11 segments, each having a pair of spiracular opening to ventrolateral position.
  11. 11. Nymphs are wingless.
