2.Body is dorso - centrally flattened and sub - rhomboidal in shape. Body is divided into head, trunk and tail.
3.Head is depressed wedge - shaped and produced into an elongated triangular snout.
4.Mouth is ventral in position. Teeth very obtuse.
5.Spiracles are present behind the eyes on the dorsal side.
6.Five pairs of gills - slits are present in the ventral side.
7.Pectoral fins are expanded and fused with the head and body. Paired pelvic fins are close to pectoral fins. Dorsal fins near tail region.
8.Tail is strong and possesses a caudal fin. Electric organs are absent.
9. Viviparous.
10. Rhinobatus is cosmopolitan in distribution but commonly found in Mediterranean, Red Sea, the West coast of Africa, Indian Ocean, Australia, China as well as from the Atlantic and Galapagos.
