  1. 1. Labeo rohita is found in abundance in rivers and ponds. These are feeders and vegetarians.
  2. 2. Labeo rohita is the most famous carp and commonly known as rohu.
  3. 3. Body is elongated with moderately rounded abdomen,measuring up to 1 meter in length and weighs about 4 kg.
  4. 4. Colour brownish grey to black above and silvery white below.
  5. 5. Scales (cycloid) are large and orange to reddish colour in the centre.
  6. 6. Head is prominent with blunt snout. Mouth is transverse and semi-oval with fringed thick lips.
  7. 7. Lateral line in distinct.
  8. 8. Paired fins are present. Dorsal fin single just above the pelvic fins, caudal fins are forked.
  9. 9. Air bladder is large and divided into posterior and anterior part.
  10. 10. Fin formula:D.16, P.17, V.9, A.7, C.19. Scales on lateral line are 40-41. And they are found all over Northern and central India.
