  1. 1. Catla catla is large freshwater fish.
  2. 2. Catla has only one species. Catla is the largest Indian carp and commonly known as Katla in Hindi .
  3. 3. Body is short, deep with a rounded abdomen, measuring more than a meter in length. Dorsal profile of the body is more convex
  4. 4. Colour blackish grey above and silvery on the sides.
  5. 5. Scales are pink or coppery in the centre on the dorsal side and whitish below.
  6. 6. Head is broadly large having large rounded eyes, mouth is wide with prominent lower lip upper lip is absent. Barbels are absent.
  7. 7. Dark black paired and median fins present. Dorsal fin is quietly large and caudal fin is bilobed.
  8. 8. Air-bladder is usually large and divided into an anterior and posterior part.

  10. 10. Catla catla is found throughout the India.
