  1. 1. Anguilla is a freshwater catadromous fish. It can live for hours out of water. Adults live in ponds,rivers,estuaries and damp grass,etc
  2. 2. Anguilla is commonly known as eel.
  3. 3. Body is elongated,cylindrical and snake-like. It measures up to 1 meter in height.
  4. 4. The colour is brown on the back and yellowish below.
  5. 5. Small more or less linear rudimentary scales are embedded in the skin,arranged in small groups which are placed obliquely at right angles to one another forming curious patterns.
  6. 6. Dorsal , caudal and anal fins are confluent, pectoral fin small and pelvic fin is absent.Fins are supported by rays, spines being absent.
  7. 7. Gill-opening is narrow and minute.
  8. 8. Air bladder has ductus pneumaticus.
  9. 9. Oviducts are absent.its eggs hatch into pelagic leptocephalic larvae.
  10. 10. Anguilla is found in Gangetic estuaries,the bay of bengal,the indo-pacific region of the seas of china and beyond.
