  1. 1. Ambystoma tigrinum is commonly known as tiger-salamander.
  2. 2. Body is elongated, lizard-like having transverse grooves , about 12 cm in length. Body is divided into head, trunk and tail.
  3. 3. The colour of the body is black with yellow patches. Skin is poisonous.
  4. 4. Head is depressed, having a large mouth, eyes with eye-lids, nostrils and a pair of parotid glands (poisonous glands).
  5. 5. Limbs are well developed. Forelimbs bear 4 fingers and hindlimbs have 5 toes.
  6. 6. Tail fin and external gills are absent in the adult stage.
  7. 7. Vertebrae are amphicoelous. Prevomers devoid of posterior processes and teeth across near margins. Palatines devoid of teeth.
  8. 8. Sexes are separate. Fertilisation is internal.
  9. 9. Its larva is known as Axolotl.
